Location Meet at 4pm at the pontoon at Pont-des-Sables, in the commune of Fourques-sur-Garonne, a few hundred yards from Marmande. After a warm welcome at the harbourmaster’s office, make way for relaxation, bird song and a slow journey through the lovely scenery. Atmosphere: Embark upon a recently constructed boat that can contain 75 people, inspired by ’gabare’ and ’sapine’ barges, which thanks to their flat bottom can sail along rivers, streams and canals. Comfortably installed on the boat (with on-board heating and air con, toilet facilities and drinks), sit back and listen to the running commentary of your guide concerning the history of the Canal de Garonne and how a canal lock works .

Come along for a unique show, a moving and authentic account of life on the Garonne. All similarities with real people are not by coincidence as people have recalled their memories to tell the area’s passionate history. The scenario was actually written from a first hand account of experiencing the overflowing river. Spectators will be transported back to the beginning of the 1960s to share in the everyday and often turbulent - life of the Garonne people. An explanatory model, a museum as well as a scenovison show, are completed during the summer by an outing on the river with the rescuers and a meal to be eaten at the open café The products served are all from "Fermes de Garonne", a network of 24 farmers, fruit and veg growers, bee-keepers, primeurs and horticulturists all flying the flag of the "Garden of the South West".

You don’t need a sailing licence to hire one of the boats owned by Emeraude Navigation. You just have to stick to the speed limit of 8 km/h, as well as the safety guidelines. Atmosphere and itinerary Choose from among electric boats (7 seats), "gabarots" (6 seats), "Bernes" (8 seats) or the Starcraft (11 seats). Take a picnic and choose which direction you want to go (towards Buzet up the canal running alongside the Garonne, or towards Fontet downriver) and enjoy the sights Life’s good!
