Châteaux du Médoc marathonRanked by the Americans as one of the world’s top 10, the Médoc marathon is surely number one in terms of conviviality and festivity. The passages through villages and past châteaux are accompanied by a noisy audience, at least half the competitors are in fancy dress, wine is high up on the agenda, and the ensuing evening is a big party. Just enrol at the beginning of the year. Only 7,000 participants are drawn at random, because numbers are limited.

Côtes-de-Bourg châteaux hikingLocationEnjoy the charm of the Bourg en Gironde region, the Little Switzerland of the Gironde just a few kilometres from Blaye, listed by UNESCO. For an original way to discover the wines of Côtes-de-Bourg, take part in the walk organised each June by the "Association Chemins et Paysages en Bourgeais". Atmosphere Put on your best walking shoes and choose the circuit that suits you: 25 km (leaving at 9.30) or 15 km (leaving at 10.30). At the end of the walk, meet the rest of the walkers for a drink served in the citadel castle along with a souvenir gift. The booking (at the Tourist Office in Bourg) includes the walk of your choice, breakfast, supplies, wine tasting sessions and the drink in the evening.
