Wine and culture, a marriage that lasts

Museums, the tools and the know-how

There are the eco-museums in Gradignan, Montagne (Saint-Émilion) or Labastide-d’Armagnac, as well as at a number of wine estates. Also, there are the themed museums, such as a cork museum in Mézin (Lot-et-Garonne) or a cooperage museum in Bergerac. Ploughs, sulphate dispensers and other tools share the history of a culture, both rural and noble.

Bordeaux

The Museum of the Wine Trade

In Bordeaux, wine has been a central force in the life of the city for over 2000 years.
This is the epicentre of the world’s most prestigious wine region, with over 120,000 hectares of vines and 400 wine merchants!

The Museum of the Wine Trade (located in the city’s historic Chartrons district) brings together a wealth of information, artefacts and first-hand accounts of the history of wine and the wine trade over the last three centuries. The museum’s historical collections are displayed in a vibrant, modern exhibition space which uses new technology to bring this history to life.

During your visit, use the detailed guide to find out all you ever wanted to know about the various techniques available for maturing wines in barrels, and learn about the birth of wine-trading in the region.
And since no immersion in the world of wine would be complete without the chance to appreciate it first-hand, you can taste two wines (one red and one white) in the museum shop at the end of your visit.
The shop also stocks a range of wines and wine-related souvenirs.

Prices:
 - Adults: €7
 - Kids: €5
 - Kids under 12: €3.50
