Chalosse and Tursan are not actually in the heart of the pine forest, but the landscapes and buildings are still typical of this part of Aquitaine. Half-timbered farmhouses in "airials"*, long straight roads between the pine trees… Tursan is evocative of the woodland - simple and fresh - and comes in red, white and rosé.

Baroque and Servadou

Are these musical instruments? Hunting gear? Pictorial styles? None of the above: baroque and servadou are two grape varieties specific to Tursan, the former for whites and the latter for reds and rosés. But there are also plenty of traditional events such as art exhibitions. And the tradition of woodpigeon hunting in autumn is still going strong.

Ideas abound for a good trip: Aire-sur-l’Adour and Pimbo in the east or Saint-Sever and Hagetmau to the west are home to many memories of pilgrimages. "La Dame à la Capuche" is a little figurine well known among prehistory enthusiasts: it was the first female sculpture. 25,000 years old and not a wrinkle! On the sports side, there is an unusual chapel dedicated to rugby in Larrivière, near Grenade-sur-l’Adour. And we should not forget the brand new Wine Route going through 36 communes!

A dash of water...

The Landes Forest is also a land of springs. Dax is France’s leading spa town. In Eugénie-les-Bains, named in memory of the Empress who liked to stay there, the water has fashioned the town and inspired Michel Guérard to create his famous slimming cuisine. As well as his luxurious offering there are many winegrowers’ houses, guest houses amongst the vines, and gîtes in the pine groves.
