Stretching from Bordeaux to the Spanish border, the vineyards of Aquitaine produce 97 AOC (protected designation of origin) wines from over 350,000 acres of vines. The vineyards around Bordeaux include the famous Saint-Émilion, Médoc and Graves and Sauternes regions, but don't forget Aquitaine's other wines: Bergerac, produced in the 'Purple Périgord' to the North-East of Bordeaux, Duras and Buzet from Lot-et-Garonne and Tursan from the Landes, also home to the celebrated Armagnac. Finally, heading into Béarn you'll find Madiran and Pacherenc, while the Basque Country is renowned for its Irrouléguy.
These 350,000 acres of vines represent a culture passed down from our ancestors, and are the heart of our region. Are you looking for an art exhibition or a sporting event? Would you prefer a round of golf, a spot of cycling or a moment of relaxation in a spa resort? Plan your trip to take in some of the region's traditional festivals and celebrations.
